On praying for our nation:
While praying for our nation in the spring of 2000, God impressed on me to pray for the spirits of the people of our nation. Grave sin will only be eliminated when salvation through Jesus Christ is received by an individual. The people of our nation will never see the truth about gambling, abortion, murder, etc… until they stand in the light of Jesus Christ.
In Dutch Sheets’ book, Intercessory Prayer, he shared the following verses God gave him for America:
Isaiah 66:7-9
“Before she was in labor, she gave birth;
Before her pain came,
She delivered a male child.
8 Who has heard such a thing?
Who has seen such things?
Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day?
Or shall a nation be born at once?
For as soon as Zion was in labor,
She gave birth to her children.
9 Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?” says the Lord.
“Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?” says your God.
As long as God is calling us to pray for the unsaved of our nation, we can know He desires to deliver them. Is childbirth easy? Is it worth it? Is finding time to pray for our nation easy? Is it worth it? I hope your answer is yes.
In the summer of 2002, I was praying and I felt God impress that there were millions of people standing in the valley of the shadow of death (spiritual death) right now. I asked quite honestly “What can I do?” God impressed on me to pray, releasing the Holy Spirit to move over them, tearing the veils, removing the blindness so they could stand in the light of Jesus Christ and be led to a spacious place. I have since learned the Hebrew word for “salvation” translates into English as “spacious place.” Isn’t God awesome in His desire to save!
In the summer of 2020, God led me to write a scripture prayer for America. I know it is long, but I am including it. There may be a particular scripture that jumps out at you that God would have you pray for our nation.
Please note that I DO understand the Book of Revelation does not mention America by name and that many believe our country will be extinct before the coming of the Lord. I also understand that the evil seems to be growing not lessening in our world. So why pray for America – Because the Lord told me to do so. You and I are limited human beings. Only God is equipped to know His timing for the return of the Lord. Paul thought Christ would return in his lifetime, and He may return in my lifetime. One thing is sure: if He returns in my lifetime, I want Him to find me doing what He told me to do in His Word; pray, share Christ and be never quit trying to bring in the harvest. 2 Peter 3:8-10 8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward [a]us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
It is in that spirit that I share with you the prayer I wrote and continue to pray for America.
Prayer for America
Dear Father,
Send the cleansing wind, Father, and rescue us from the snares of Your enemy.

Cause Your wind to blow fiercely in the land; stronger than any hurricane man has seen.

When your enemy perpetrated the 9/11 attacks on America, buildings, people and other things were condensed into dust. I ask now that You perpetuate an attack of this magnitude in the spiritual realm upon your enemy and his forces.

Father, In Judges 20, the Israelites fought against one of their one, the Benjamites, because of an atrocity the Benjamites carried out. You caused them to prevail (after an early defeat). This shows me that at times, even people who are “on the same team” will be called upon to fight (spiritually) what appears to be their own “teammates” IF You determine it is necessary. You work in many and varied ways. As You fight this battle for America, may my mind be free and clear of any preconceptions of who You are fighting. The battle is Yours, Father. You know who needs to be defeated, when, and why. When I call on You to send Your agents, help me to know that You use them like a surgical tool to cut out cancer in order to save the body not to destroy it. I trust You, Father.
In Ezra 8, Ezra did not ask for physical soldiers to protect them on their way back to rebuild the temple because he had emphatically told the king that You were their protection. In this battle, I am to remember that You are my protection – not people. When You route the enemy, there may be repercussions in the physical world, but You will protect as You carry out the plan of attack (through me and others).
Go underneath, behind, above and around your enemy.
Isaiah 59: 15-19
Surround your enemy with holy fire.
I read throughout Deuteronomy and Leviticus that the holiest offerings made to You were made through fire and were considered holy. Lord, nothing would decimate Your enemy more than to be surrounded by that which is holy – Your Holy Spirit, praise to You, thanksgiving to You, prayers of repentance to You. Fill the air with these holy things, Father……years ago You told me to “shatter the enemy with God’s love.” If that is what You mean here, Father, please do so – through me and through Your church.
Block his path!
Lord, the following verses were written in reference to Israel when they sinned and went their own way, but I believe You desire to hedge in your enemy and block his way now.

May Your purpose and plan be accomplished through this nation and Your children in it.
